Meet Laura

I had the privilege of serving two terms on the Rapid City Common Council representing Ward 5, including serving twice as Council President. During those six years, I worked with colleagues and community members to solve problems, move projects forward, and ensure the city government worked for the people of Rapid City.

My approach to public service has always been simple: listen first, work collaboratively, and focus on practical solutions that improve everyday life for Rapid City families and neighborhoods. Even after leaving office, I continued my community service through organizations like the Humane Society of the Black Hills, Minneluzahan Senior Center, and Friends of Rapid City Parks. I’ve also remained a trusted resource to current council members and City Hall staff when community issues arise.

Outside of City Hall, I’m a speech language pathologist and small business owner in Rapid City. My work allows me to listen to families every day and understand the real-life, daily challenges our community faces.

Rapid City is a special place. As our community grows, we must manage that growth thoughtfully while preserving the values, neighborhoods, and opportunities that make this city such a great place to live.

That’s why I’m running for Ward 5. Let’s bring experienced, practical leadership back to City Hall and focus on making government work. My priorities are guided by a simple framework: IDEA- Infrastructure, Development, Education, Accessibility, and Social Spaces.

By focusing on these fundamentals, we can strengthen infrastructure, support public safety and essential services, invest in education and parks, help businesses grow, and expand recreation and gathering spaces for residents of all ages.

Most importantly, I want to make sure Ward 5 residents have a strong voice at the table and City Hall works for them.
